RESTAURANT & PUB
The first building after the pass opened was the post office and
trading store, which has been turned into an elegant restaurant with
restauranteur Keith Blake at the helm. Having launched and managed
the famed Roosenfontein and Royal Malawane, which he ran with
long-time team mate, excecutive chef John Jackson, also opening
Blake’s Theatre Restaurant at the Arts Cape (then Nico Malan) Keith
has found his home at The Old Village Restaurant & Pub and cottages
with its beautifuly restored old historic cotages.
He is joined by chef, Nico Pretorius, who trained at the Institute
of Culinary Arts and worked under Margot Janse at Le Quartier
Francais and Singita Lebombo in the Kruger National Park and does
not come any more highly recommended.
This successful team conjure up a blackboard menu of rustic
country cooking - chef’s plats du jour, (starters, mains and
mouth-watering desserts) which changes every 3 days, depending on
the freshest produce found in the local markets, except on Sundays,
when a hearty buffet carvery is served.
Pub grub is served in the adjoining pub for the not-so-hungry or
on the scenic balcony.
Conveniently situated 1km off the N7, with its original Oregon
floors and high beamed ceiling, this restaurant offers elegant
dining with fresh decor and country ambiance set against mountain
side overlooking the Cedarberg mountain also catering for functions
and special occasions.
